Animation - Fusion Fascia

As the umbilical herniation reduces, portions of the gut (like the ascending and descending colon seen here) are pressed up against the posterior abdominal wall, where the visceral peritoneum on their posterior surfaces fuses to the parietal peritoneum. Their mesenteries also fuse to the parietal peritoneum on the posterior abdominal wall, creating a relatively avascular plane called fusion fascia.
