Synovial Joints - Ball and Socket Joints

Ball and socket joints are multiaxial, allowing movement in an almost infinite number of axes through the ball of the joint. These joints allow flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, circumduction and rotation. Ball and socket joints allow for more flexibility than any other type of joint. Examples are:

  1. The hip
  2. The shoulder
